I’m so excited to share this tidbit of information with all of you right now! I’m so excited to tell you about this one day conference being held here in Indy in just under two weeks – As Told By Us, hosted by Trendy In Indy. Sorry to the guys who read this – this particular conference is just for the girl bosses!
One of my 2019 goals for myself and my blogging and content creation efforts was to attend more conferences and network with others here in Indianapolis. Well, I put it out in the universe that this was something I wanted to do…and guess what literally showed up in my social media feeds a few days later…THIS CONFERENCE. It’s probably not that “woo woo” that it showed up on my newsfeed, but the timing for me was spot on! So when Steph (the lovely lady behind Trendy In Indy) was looking for help with sharing the event, it was definitely a sign to reach out and get involved.
I’ve been wanting to attend events that are closer to home. SO MANY blog/creative/entrepreneurial conferences are not held in Indy or reasonable driving distance (i.e. Chicago, Cincinnati, etc.). When things like this happen close to home, it’s very exciting. Indianapolis is growing in so many ways and I’m so excited that there are so many female entrepreneurs doing “their thing” here in town. It’s such an amazing thing to recognize and be a part of.
This past week, I asked Steph if she could answer a few questions about As Told By Us and I’m sharing that Q&A here.
Q: What inspired you to host/create a conference like As Told By Us? Why host this type of event right now?
A: About 10 months ago, VisionLoft owner, Julie, came to me with the idea to host a cool conference in Indy for female creatives. After several months of dreaming about what this might look like, As Told By Us was born. When I was in high school, I had the opportunity to attend and plan conferences focused on leadership. Since that time, I’ve always wanted to speak to something that I’m truly passionate about. I’ve spent the last year playing the comparison game on social media, trying my best to be solely an influencer. I’ve realized that I enjoy influencer marketing on my terms with partners that I can build a real relationship with and also for me, my passion lies with branding. This year, I wanted to make sure I was serving my community to the best of my ability by sharing my expertise and that started with brand consulting and this conference. This conference will teach female creatives and entrepreneurs the ins and outs of building a brand, best social media practices to grow authentically, and how to manage self-care as a busy career woman.
Q: How does someone start planning an event like this?
A: I think the best way I can answer this is to start by starting. Having a partnership with VisionLoft helped because the venue is one of the most important elements in planning a conference. Then I just started writing in a Google Doc about what I wanted this to look like, what benefit I wanted to offer attendees, and what sponsors could possibly be involved.
SIDE NOTE: BTW, the sponsors of this conference are some GREAT Indy businesses like Indy Fresh Catering, State of Grace Boutique, Brickhouse Coffee Co., Shop Goldylox, Lesley Jane Boutique, Ella Mae’s Boutique, Simplicity Juice, DeKam Studios, Splitwhit Visuals, Uncommonly Styled, Shop Gina Celeste, ZIPS Dry Cleaning, Ella Jayms, Banzi B
Q: Who is this event perfect for?
A: This event is perfect for female entrepreneurs and creatives. Whether your balancing a side hustle, trying something as a hobby, or have been in business for a few years, this conference is going to benefit you. It’s filled with incredible speakers that are experts in their fields from social media managers to business coaches to yoga studio owners. All of the speakers are female creatives who are crushing it in their careers.
Q: What are you most excited about for As Told By Us?
A: I’m most excited for the action that will be taken after the conference. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited for the event as a whole. However, the point of this conference is to inspire action, change, and growth for attendees. By implementing a new social strategy or developing a brand guide, these creatives could double or triple their business this year.
Q: What do you hope that attendees take away from the day?
A: I hope attendees understand that their story matters and it deserves to be told. We all have a story that we are currently writing and these stories make up our brands at the root of it all. I hope that attendees will take advantage of the insane networking opportunities that exist at As Told By Us and that longterm relationships are formed because of this one-day conference.
I’ll be packing up my business cards and a notebook to take lots of notes. I can’t wait to connect and learn A TON during this particular day! Will I see you there? If you’re going, let me know!
TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS: Do you like conferences? Do you go? Why or why not? I’d love to know!
